O livro "Humano pós-humano: a técnica e a vida" de Dominique Lecourt expõe as formas das aplicações da técnica e as mudanças que ela causou na vida humana e na sua natureza; na sua essência. Essa resenha visa explicitar suas ideias, expondo os argumentos de Lecourt para defender a sua tese de que o ser humano ultrapassou essa essência e tornou-se o pós-humano, no momento em que o homem aliou a técnica e a ciência não mais para suprir suas necessidades, (...) mas para construir máquinas que ultrapassem o seu modelo e seus limites biológicos, substituindo o homem em quase todas as suas atividades. Apresente como solução para esse problema a necessidade da aplicação da ética a cada inovação tecnológica. (shrink)

In view of the aging and dejuvenation of the working population and the expected shortages in employees’ skills in the future, it is of utmost importance to focus on older workers’ employability in order to prolong their working life until, or even beyond, their official retirement age. The primary aim of the current study was to examine the relationship between older workers’ employability (self-)perceptions and their intention to continue working until their official retirement age. In addition, we studied the role (...) of potential antecedents of their perceived employability at three different levels: training and education in current expertise area as well as in an adjacent expertise area (individual level factor), learning value of the job (job level factor), and organizational career management practices (organizational level factor). Data were collected by means of e-questionnaires that were distributed among two groups of Dutch older (45-plus) white collar workers. The samples consisted of 223 employees of an insurance company, and 325 university workers, respectively. Our research model was tested separately in each sample using Structural Equation Modeling. We controlled for effects of respondents’ (self-)perceived health and (self-)perceived financial situation. Similar results were found for both samples. First, the relationship of perceived employability with the intention to continue working until one’s retirement age was positive, whereas the relationship between a perceived good financial situation with the intention to continue working until one’s retirement age was negative. Secondly, as regards the potential antecedents, results showed that the learning value of the job was positively related to perceived employability. In addition, an employee’s perception of good health is a relevant correlate of perceived employability. So, whereas perceived employability contributes to the intention to continue working until one’s retirement age, a good financial situation is a push factor to retire early. In order to promote the labor participation of older workers, this study indicates that organizations should focus on the learning possibilities that are inherent to one’s job rather than on providing additional training or career management. Auteur mondialement connu de La Révolte des masses, José Ortega y Gasset (1883-1955) n'avait à ce jour étrangement pas bénéficié en France d'une biographie ou d'une monographie substantielle. Voici qui est désormais chose faite avec cette somme magistrale soigneusement contextualisée et documentée de première main par Béatrice Fonck. Tout en retraçant la généalogie des concepts majeurs de l'œuvre abondante du grand philosophe espagnol, elle établit combien son itinéraire intellectuel a eu pour principe fédérateur un précoce, constant et plein engagement en (...) faveur d'une unité européenne. Et tout spécialement d'une Europe nourrie de son irréductible diversité culturelle, au sein d'un "concert des nations" et sous l'égide de l'humanisme libéral qui la caractérise fondamentalement. Convaincu que l'avenir de l'Espagne passait nécessairement par son intégration à cette Europe, et lui-même intimement "européanisé", Ortega y Gasset s'est toujours d'abord voulu en lien avec les autres grands penseurs européens de son temps, de Bergson à Heidegger et Einstein. In this post‐sequencing era, geneticists can focus on functional genomics on a much larger scale than ever before. One goal is the discovery and elucidation of the intricate genetic networks that co‐ordinate transcriptional activation in different regulatory circuitries. High‐throughput gene expression measurement using DNA arrays has thus become routine strategy. This approach, however, does not directly identify gene loci that belong to the same regulatory group; e.g., those that are bound by a common (set of) transcription factor(s). Working in yeast, (...) two groups have recently published an elegant method that could circumvent this problem, by combining chromatin immunoprecipitation and DNA microarrays.(1,2) The method is likely to provide a powerful tool for the dissection of global regulatory networks in eukaryotic cells. Sua recepção é mista: se ele pode aparecer aos filósofos como um aliado na luta contra a ortodoxia religiosa por meio de sua crítica ao clero e sua apologia do luxo, estes últimos contestam várias de suas afirmações principais, que decorrem da hipótese egoísta: sua avaliação negativa do amor-próprio e do interesse, (...) sua recusa em reconhecer uma benevolência e uma sociabilidade naturais, e a dissociação que o paradoxo “vícios privados, benefícios públicos” faz entre a moralidade de um ato e o reconhecimento de sua utilidade social. The increasing prominence of men’s studies in the academic panorama has allowed for further investigation not only on women’s, but also on men’s literary identities. The Ibis Trilogy by Amitav Ghosh offers new insights on the subject by staging several queer masculinities. The present essay analyses the non-conforming identity of Kesri Singh from the perspective of men’s studies. Firstly, the essay compares and contrasts the socially imposed masculinity with Kesri’s divergent one. Secondly, it highlights the strategy deployed by the warrior (...) in order to protect his psychological and physical integrity in a toxic environment. Given the strong historical background of the novels, references are provided to account for the patriarchal context in which Kesri develops. Further sources of discrimination such as race and class are also explored, according to an intersectional feminist approach. Thus, it will be proved that a male gender related discourse covers ample narrative space in the Trilogy; it also reflects the critical opposition by Ghosh to the Western colonialism and Indian caste division. Moreover, it will be exposed the manipulative use of the male gender as an instrument to enforce colonialism and classism. Therefore, the Trilogy presents masculinity as a highly debatable, multifaceted notion which undergoes a negotiation in meaning throughout the novels. This premise leads to a broader definition of the concept, which provides a new, significant viewpoint on the subject. (shrink)

Musique et littérature sont-elles des soeurs ennemies, ou sont-elles susceptibles de s'entendre? Rousseau rêvait d'un langage originel qui aurait été à la fois musique et parole. Cette union de deux arts qui sont proches parents mais dont les langages diffèrent profondément a cependant toujours été périlleuse. Certains écrivains tentent de capter l'essence même de la musique à travers leurs romans, leurs poésies, tandis que d'autres s'essaient à la critique musicale, ou encore tentent de mêler musiques et mots dans les genres (...) mixtes que sont l'opéra et la chanson populaire. Quant aux lexicographes, ils proposent des définitions de la musique nécessairement imparfaites dans des dictionnaires. Ces tentatives sans cesse renouvelées de capter la musique au travers des mots, jamais totalement satisfaisantes, sont-elles de ce fait perpétuellement vouées à l'échec? Béatrice Didier montre ici qu'elles sont au contraire une source constante d'inspiration, grâce auxquelles musique et littérature gagnent de nouvelles formes d'expression."--Page 4 of cover. O filósofo Dominique Lecourt, nascido em 05 de fevereiro de 1944, em Paris, é professor da Universidade Paris Diderot-7, e discute questões como ética, política e ciência, atentando ao biocatastrofismo e ao cientificismo. Tais questões são pertinentes na presente obra, a qual é dividida em quatro capítulos.

Hope is hard to characterise because of the exceptional diversity of its applications, to the point that one may wonder whether there is continuity between ordinary cases of hope and what is often called 'hope against hope'. In this paper, I shall follow the relatively small but growing literature on hope and examine propositional hopes, i.e. hopes of the form 'hoping that p', with a particular focus on recent work by Philip Pettit and Adrienne Martin. I shall do this first (...) by identifying a significant difficulty encountered by what has become known as the 'orthodox definition'. The OD defines hope by means of two necessary and sufficient conditions: A hopes that p if and only if A desires that p and A assigns to p a degree of probability between 0 and 1. On this definition, to hope is to desire an outcome we deem neither certain nor impossible. Note that the relevant probability assignment is subjective: the OD allows, for example, that children can hope for Father Christmas to visit them on Christmas Eve. (shrink)

L'obiettivo di questo lavoro è analizzare la percezione che gli insegnanti di scuola secondaria di secondo grado dell’area metropolitana di Bologna (Italia) hanno della storia e del suo insegnamento. Attraverso una ricerca quantitativa svolta attraverso la somministrazione di un questionario su scala Likert a novantanove insegnanti dell’area metropolitana di Bologna si sono potuti identificare risultati ambivalenti. Da una parte, gli insegnanti possiedono generalmente una ottima e spesso consapevole, ma migliorabile, concezione epistemologica nei confronti della storia e del suo insegnamento; tuttavia, (...) emerge una concezione non olistica del patrimonio, degli strumenti e delle metodologie didattiche a disposizione nella pratica docente; infatti gli insegnanti affermano di utilizzare in classe prevalentemente la spiegazione frontale, lasciando alle attività laboratoriali legate alle fonti un ruolo marginale. We report the identification of a recurrent, 520-kb 16p12.1 microdeletion associated with childhood developmental delay. The microdeletion was detected in 20 of 11,873 cases compared with 2 of 8,540 controls and replicated in a second series of 22 of 9,254 cases compared with 6 of 6,299 controls. Most deletions were inherited, with carrier parents likely to manifest neuropsychiatric phenotypes compared to non-carrier parents. Probands were more likely to carry an additional large copy-number variant when compared to matched controls. The clinical (...) features of individuals with two mutations were distinct from and/or more severe than those of individuals carrying only the co-occurring mutation. Our data support a two-hit model in which the 16p12.1 microdeletion both predisposes to neuropsychiatric phenotypes as a single event and exacerbates neurodevelopmental phenotypes in association with other large deletions or duplications. Analysis of other microdeletions with variable expressivity indicates that this two-hit model might be more generally applicable to neuropsychiatric disease. © 2010 Nature America, Inc.
